MY FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT FALL 2022
When November 1st rolls around, I’m usually ready to immediately bring my Christmas tree down from the attic and heat up the hot cocoa. But for the first time, I find myself really wanting to relish every moment and changing leaf during fall 2022. The fall weather has been extra generous this year in Nashville, and I’m soaking it all up. Between the pumpkin spice, bringing out cute boots, and this season being filled with the joy of a new puppy in the family, it’s safe to say this has been one of my favorite falls. Here is what I’m loving this season…
Dressing Up for Halloween
I love dressing up for Halloween because it allows me to get creative with what I have! I don’t always commit to buying a whole costume, so I’ve gotten more resourceful over the years. One of my favorite parts is accessorizing with makeup, wigs, or even props. On a Twitch stream the other day, Cooper and I had to make a Halloween costume out of the things we had available in our house and Dorothy was chosen for me. Not only did I have a costume from a few years ago upstairs, but our puppy Kirby was the perfect little Toto look-a-like!
Chunky Scarves
I don’t know what it is about chunky scarves, but any time I bring them out for fall and winter, I get SO excited. They’re so cozy and can really elevate an outfit with that simple accessory. You just can’t go wrong! Plus, they come in all different sizes and colors and patterns. There is truly no wrong way to wear a chunky scarf. As long as you feel bundled and cute, you’re successfully embodying one of my favorite things about fall 2022!
Delicious Homemade Hot Drinks
I still drink warm drinks occasionally in the summer and spring, but there is something about a warm drink during a cold morning or evening. Whether it’s coffee, tea, or something else entirely, warm drinks (especially the ones with seasonal flavors) give me that warm and fuzzy fall feeling. Cooper and I have been obsessed with this simple syrup mix that we made ourselves for the first time recently, and I kid you not, we put it in all our coffee drinks now. It’s insanely delicious, so try it out yourself!
The Perfect Fall Simple Syrup
1 cup of water
1 cup of sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
8-10 cloves
2 star of annise
Let all the ingredients simmer on the stove top for about 15 minutes, allowing the sugar to dissolve. Make sure it doesn’t boil. Let it cool, strain it, and store it in the fridge for up to a month.
Friendsgiving
I really enjoy the holidays because it means that I get to spend a little extra time with my friends and family members. We all slow down a bit and clear out some space in our schedules to just be together. Friendsgiving is a perfect example of that. Sharing food with my friends all around a table makes me feel a sort of hope and joy about the world that I can sometimes forget when life is stressful and busy. Friendsgiving is a classic fall favorite for me, but mostly because it means time spent with those that I love dearly. I really cannot wait for fall 2022 Friendsgiving.
Quick & Yummy Soups
This one kind of goes along with the hot drink category, but who doesn’t love a warm and tasty soup in cool weather? I am definitely a fan of curling up on the couch, bundling myself in some blankets, turning on a movie, and enjoying a bowl of soup with Cooper and the pups. It never fails to warm me up, and I don’t feel like I’m sweating after I finish my bowl! One of my favorites right now is a take on Avgolemono — a lemon, chicken, rice soup thickened with egg.
Leaves Changing Colors
Sometimes fall can come and go quickly, but there is always a certain sense of excitement that comes with seeing those red, orange, and yellow streaks through the trees. It’s a wonderful reminder of the beauty of nature and how the world keeps turning and changing all around us each day. If you’ve never been to a place, somewhere outside the city, where it just looks like a sea of vibrant colors and trees for miles, I highly recommend it. It will take your breath away and fulfill all your fall 2022 fantasies.
Festive Decorations
This year I really went all in with the spooky halloween decor for fall, and usually I’m one to jump into decorating for Christmas as soon as possible, but not this year. I’m not going to say that I’m not super excited for that little flip in my stomach when I see the first twinkly lights of the season, but I’m just really enjoying soaking up fall in all of its glory this year. It’s exciting to see people embracing the season because it brings such life to some of my favorite months of the year. Fall 2022 is certainly going to be one for the books.
