ROMANTICIZE YOUR LIFE
“Romanticize your life…”
This is a phrase I’ve been hearing a lot, whether from different influencers, podcasts or TikToks. I started to wonder what that really means and what that looks like practically for my own life.
When I did some research on it, these are some of the key takeaways I found when it comes to romanticizing your life: finding little joys in each day, creating little rituals for yourself, being truly present in each season and moment you’re in, not looking ahead and, of course, really diving into that main character energy.
How Do I Put That Into Practice?
The easiest way to start romanticizing your life today is with a good morning and nighttime routine. What better way to love yourself than to start and end your day well? For the morning, maybe you wake up, have a nice glass of lemon water and journal. Instead of the classic blaring phone alarm sound, try something else out. Maybe you can wake up to a different song each month. This is something I’ve done for myself and I absolutely love. I currently wake up to either the album “Woodland” by The Paper Kites or to soft garden bird sounds I downloaded on Apple Music. I know it sounds extra, but easing into your day with soft sounds helps me not feel so anxious at the start. Maybe you journal to get all your thoughts out before the day starts, or maybe you use a shampoo that you love the smell of. The small things can make a big difference, and you are worth the time and effort it takes to make sure your mind and body are feeling ready to tackle each day.
At night I love to put on my salt lamp for some low warm light and fill my diffuser with some lavender oil. I’ve been spending a lot more time on my phone, but when I picture the version of myself that I want to be, that version of me reads before bed. A much more calming activity for me than scrolling or checking emails. (That dips into finding good work/life balance, which is a whole other conversation but SO important.)
find Fun in the Mundane
I feel like this is another huge part of finding joy in life. So much of it is filled with the little things we don’t love doing, so how do we make life more fun? A great example for me has to do with chores. When it comes to dishes, I like buying sponges that are pink or I buy the Scrub Daddy smiley face ones. It’s silly, but it makes scrubbing a pan a little more fun when the sponge is smiling back! I love playing music when I do chores too. Music can be a part of just about any routine, and it can make such a huge difference! Maybe you find ways to spice up doing the laundry. I love using my little penguin dryer balls they are not only better for the environment than using dryer sheets, but also oh so cute.
