SUMMERTIME SKINCARE ROUTINE
Summer can often mean we’re out in the sunshine enjoying the outdoors day after day, but taking care of your skin during that time can be tough. Sometimes the heat dries out my skin, or the sun exposure can cause damage. This summer, I’ve tried to be proactive about maintaining a routine that would combat those things and actively hydrate my skin. Here are some of the products I’ve been sticking with and loving…
Remember: you know what works best for your skin, and you can always reach out to a doctor or dermatologist for a professional opinion!
Step 1: Cleanser
Cleanser seems like an obvious step, but it took me a minute to figure out which one worked for me. My skin is sensitive and acne-prone, so I like to use a gentle cleanser. You should always talk to a dermatologist if you’re looking for more specific advice about what works for your skin, but I find that gentler cleaners are always a good place to start!
Step 2: Ice Roller
This might be my favorite part of my current routine. Using an ice roller in the mornings is a great way to help transition out of that sleepy daze and say good morning to your skin! You can get one for around $10 on Amazon, and I love this one. You can even use it throughout the day to freshen up your skin a bit. Sometimes it even gives me a sense of calm if I’m working through a busy day.
Step 3: Toner
Using a toner is another step in ensuring my face gets really clean. Removing all of the dirt and grime from the day and makeup is super important, and I find these products help me achieve just that! Plus, they smell great and are generally gentle on my skin, though that took some trial and error.
Step 4: Serums
I currently use a Vitamin C Serum and Hyaluronic Acid, which has worked well for me and my skin. As a reminder, what works for me might not suit your skincare needs, but these products have done wonders for my skin. I always feel extra hydrated and dewy after applying, and I can tell my skin brightens when I consistently do this routine.
Step 5: Eye Cream
I usually use this Active Hydration Under Eye Cream in the mornings to reduce any puffiness under my eyes! I think it’s time I introduce an eye cream for the sides of my eyes soon, and I would include that step here. Even if I don’t use any concealer or foundation, I can tell that this eye cream helps my eyes look a little more awake and alive!
Step 6: Moisturize
People always say to moisturize, and I’m trying my best to consistently do just that. These are some of my faves, but there are many different moisturizers to help keep your skin feeling smooth and hydrated, whether you have oily, dry, or combination skin.
Step 7: Sunscreen
If you do nothing else, sunscreen is ESSENTIAL. Protecting your skin from the sun is a way to keep it healthy as you age, but it’s also a super important step to avoid any damage or skin cancer. Please, please, please always remember sunscreen!
ExtraS:
Exfoliate
Exfoliating is a helpful step to include in your skincare routine, but here are some key things I’ve learned: find a gentle product and you don’t need to exfoliate every day! I’m still learning how to take care of my skin, but so far, the main takeaway is that gentle products and consistency are your best friends.
Lip Hydration
I learn this lesson every summer, and that lesson is to always keep chapstick on hand! Beyond the everyday chapstick, these serums have done wonders for the health and look of my lips. Water is a great way to keep your lips healthy as well, but these products are wonderful supplementary treatments!
Spot Treatments
Anytime I experience a breakout, I use acne treatment before poking at my face. I like to put it on before I go to bed, which works because I’m not tempted to touch my face after it’s been cleaned and treated. I’ve discovered that sometimes it takes shopping for something that works for you, and if you have consistent acne, your dermatologist is the person to speak to about treatment options.
Drinks lots of water
Water seems to be the key ingredient in all things health and wellness! I can tell that my face often suffers a bit if I’m dehydrated, so I try to get a solid amount of water in each day. Internal and external health are always connected!
Silk Pillowcase
My silk pillowcase is one of my favorite things now. It’s gentle (there’s that word again) on my skin, and it also looks super cute on my bed, which is definitely a win. And as always, cleaning your pillowcases frequently is a proactive way to avoid acne on your face.
