7 LAST-MINUTE DIY VALENTINE'S GIFTS
Does anyone else feel like 2021 is just flying by? I can’t believe it’s already Valentine’s Day Weekend! If you were surprised by how quickly the date came and are still thinking what to give someone, here are some last-minute ideas:
Mix tape
As a wedding gift, my sister and I wrote a song that she then recorded to give to her future husband. To go along with the sweetest song in the world, was a playlist of songs that represented their relationship together. She burned the CD, made art work, even bought a CD player to go along with it, and it made me think about the last time I made a mix tape for someone. Had I ever? Honestly, why is this something we don’t make more often? I guess from time to time we make a playlist on Spotify, but I can’t remember the last time I even made a playlist with the intentions of sharing it with someone. If music has played a big part in your relationship, try taking a page out of my sister’s book and make a mix tape of songs that represent your relationship. Maybe it includes a song that was playing during a first kiss or a song that quickly became a road trip anthem. Or maybe the mix tape includes songs with stories similar to your relationship together. Extra points for writing a song.
Jar of Love
When I was touring, I would receive some really cool gifts from supporters of my music. One that still sticks with me, and one that I think makes a great gift for someone, was a little Jar of Happiness. It included little hand written reminders to bring a smile to my face each time I pulled a paper from the jar. If you have a small jar and some colorful paper, take a moment to write down some specific words of love and encouragement for your partner! Try going for 30, so for a month there’s a little message to pull out each day. Try using some pompoms, paint, or ribbons to decorate the Jar! And to give it something extra, cut the paper into small hearts.
Some ideas to get your started:
You make the best breakfast
I love your smile
You send the best TikToks
”CouponS”
I always thought the fake coupon gifts could be a cop out for things you should just already be doing in a relationship, but there’s still a lot you can give through a fake “coupon” form for a cute last minute DIY gift. Here are some fresh “coupon” ideas that aren’t just a redemption for a hug:
Do something your recipient loves that you don’t normally enjoy together
(Ex. Watch The Bachelor, watch your partner play a video game they love, go for a hike etc)Take on a chore for the week that’s not normally yours
Let your recipient pick the next movie or show you watch together
box of memories
My friend Julie who runs the Make Pretty Stuff Blog told me about the sweetest Valentine’s Day gift that she made her husband one year. It was a little box filled with memories, from a printed page of their first texts to photos of their relationship. If I was making one, I think mine would include the tickets from our first concert together, the backstage passes to the first show we played together, pictures of our dogs as puppies, maybe a pair of Disney Mickey Ears since our first picture together was at Disneyland. Hopefully this can give you some ideas, but a little box of memories is a super thoughtful gift that can look so many ways! If you really wanna go DIY, try decorating a shoe box or even wrapping the box and lid separately in wrapping paper to give it a fresh look
COOK SOMETHING UP
One of my personal favorite things in this world is delicious food, and I think a good meal or a sweet treat makes a great gift any day of the year. Try making your partner’s favorite dish or dessert. If you wanna get real cutesy with it, here are some of my favorite Valentine’s themed sweets that I found on Pinterest!
Handmade Card
There’s something still really lovely about a handmade card. Even with the little imperfections, taking the time to make something for someone is thoughtful and really means a lot. It feels a little grade school, but that’s part of what makes it so cute, I think. Take your time to write a sweet note, especially if words are the love language of the person you’re giving the card to.
DIY Flower BOUQUET
Flower arrangements can get expensive real quick! And trying to get one delivered last minute might be even more expensive or even impossible, so try making an arrangement yourself. Hit up a flower market if there’s one near you or grocery store. Trader Joe’s always has a great and cheap selection. Choose a few to mix and match and if you’re in need of a vase hit up a Good Will or thrift store for a quick find! You can always use a mason jar too, if you have one.
