HOW TO STAY WELL IN A BUSY SEASON

I’ve been traveling a lot lately for some fun trips and some not so fun ones. Not only has this season been busy physically and professionally, but emotionally as well. After saying goodbye to a few dear family members, my body and mind have been processing a lot these last couple of weeks. That being said, staying healthy has been one of my priorities in the midst of it all, so here are a few ways I’ve managed to stay well in this hectic time. (I’m no expert! These are just some tips that have been helping me out.)

1. stay hydrated

I know this one probably seems like an obvious one, but I cannot stress how important staying hydrated has been for me. Not only does it help energize me on days when I feel like I’m dragging, but it also staves off headaches, dry skin, and digestion issues for me. When my body is angry at me, showing it’s discomfort either with a stomachache or a face that is feeling dull, it can be really hard for me to focus throughout the day. However, when I stay hydrated, I’m not only giving my body what it needs, but I’m also avoiding potential issues from dehydration.

2. Immune boosts

Whether it’s an Emergen-C packet, a vitamin D supplement or some sort of elderberry boost, I’ve been trying to be intentional about giving my immune system that little bump it needs to help me stay healthy. If I know I’m going to be traveling a lot and encountering a place with a lot of germs for an extended period of time, sometimes I’ll take a supplement or drink Emergen-C beforehand. Again, I’m no expert, so you should do your own research and talk to your doctor about supplements that help you avoid sickness.

3. Wash your hands… A lot

I’m sure we’ve all become more aware of germs in the COVID-19 pandemic, so this is probably a regular practice for most of us anyway, but washing your hands is HUGE for staying healthy. I’m sure most of us have this tendency to touch our faces out of habit which is why it’s so crucial that we wash our hands frequently and carry hand sanitizer around. Find a scent you like and then clip it onto your purse or carry it in your car. Washing your hands with soap and water for a sustained amount of time is best, but hand sanitizer is great for when you’re on the go!

4. get a good night’s rest

Lastly, make sure that you are sleeping enough. If your body feels like it’s drained, allow yourself that time to rest and recharge. Maybe you go to bed earlier or let yourself sleep in for a bit. In the midst of a busy season, sleep is a crucial part of remaining both physically and mentally well. You want to feel like you have the tools to tackle your day, week and month, and sleeping well is going to make that so much easier. If you’ve been traveling as much as me or are going to be, those subtle time changes can have a bigger effect than you realize, so be sure to prioritize sleep throughout these busy seasons.

As I write this, my poor husband Cooper is laying in bed with a nasty cold, so I’ve been doing my best to put each of these tips into practice! Holiday season can demand a lot of time and energy, and we only have so much of ourselves to give before we have to slow down. All that to say, let’s take the time to take care of ourselves so we can enjoy each and every moment.
