EASY DIY HOME DECOR

DIY always seems daunting. I mean, I’m the person that gets overwhelmed by painting a wall. But sometimes, it can be therapeutic to put your mind and energy somewhere else for a moment. Not to mention, the sense of accomplishment and bragging rights that come with “I made that!” This week on the blog, we wanted to focus on not only easy DIYs but also ways to refresh items you may already have! Not only is this a cost effective way to elevate some of the items in your home, but it can also be a really fun activity for you and your loved ones! Even if they don’t turn out how you want the first time around, try again and see what happens!

Painted Glasses

Head on down to a thrift shop and collect some glassware or open up your cabinet and take a plain, clear wine glass and give it some new life! I tried this activity a few times, and this daisy one turned out the best. I just put some white and yellow paint on a paper plate and use Q-tips to make the center and petals. It was super easy, and I love how it turned out! I might even try to do a set of these for summer and fill them with fun summer drinks (which, by the way, we’ll be doing a blog post about that in the coming weeks!).

Clay Candle Holders

These clay candle holders are so so easy to make, and they look really great just sitting on a coffee table or on a shelf. The instructions were simple and easy to follow. All you do is mold and bake! I went with a plain white clay that I first rolled out on a clean surface, then I molded it to fit some candles I already had. The nice thing about working with the mold and bake clay, it can still look charming with the imperfections. So even if you don’t use tools to get the perfect look, or add paint to elevate the look, you can still end up with something pretty great!

Repainted Canvas

This idea came from my sister, Madi Brooks who had a canvas of some artwork that no longer fit her style, so instead of sending it on its way, she repurposed it and gave it a fresh new look. This is a really exciting way to make something beautiful and new out of something that served you well for a long time. You don’t have to call yourself an artist to do this activity and make something stunning! Whether you shoot for something abstract or maybe pull your kids into the mix and make this a family affair, there is something about having new artwork that YOU made hanging in your home!
