FASHION/BEAUTY ITEMS I’M BRINGING BACK TO MY WARDROBE

I think we’re all familiar with the way that fashion trends seem to resemble a sort of cycle: they’re in one decade, out another. In the past couple of years, 90’s fashion was the defining trend until Y2K started to make its comeback. Now, there are definitely some pieces that I’m ready to leave in the past (low-rise jeans seem to be everyone’s enemy), but here are a few items from my childhood that I want to bring back into my life.

SLIP ON VANS

I didn’t want to completely relive high school by going for the black and white checkered slip ons, but I am truly living for this fresh take on one of my faves growing up with these etherea/true white Vans. I was so surprised to find how many different color options they have now, and having this new pair is reminding me how versatile Vans really are! I can wear them with jeans or dress them up with a cute skirt/dress. It’s been fun to play around with styling them in my closet as an adult.

SEQUIN BAGS

You guys know how much I love all things sparkly, so sequin bags are definitely something I’m looking to integrate back into my outfits. When I was a kid, I LOVED wearing sequin purses whenever and with whatever, but I’m excited to experiment with purses more in my current style. They can spice up a casual outfit or give you that extra shine on a night out! However you choose to try out a sequin bag, I hope you hear both my voice in your head cheering you on.

Lip gloss

I feel like from 2015 on, “matte” was the name of the game. All makeup trends were heading in the matte direction, whether it be more matte-like foundation or matte lipstick. However, now that 90’s and Y2K fashion is on it’s way in (if not already here), sparkles are starting to make their comeback! I’m seeing more dewy makeup looks, and lip gloss is the cherry on top. I have a few lip glosses that I’ve been loving recently like this (BLANK), and I think the thing I love most about this new trend is that it is fun! While I love the severity and professional look of a matte lipstick, gloss makes me feel more me!

Bedazzled jeans

Okay, I know this one might be controversial, but I have been dying to track down a pair of bedazzled jeans. These were much bigger in Texas, but I had some as a teen and absolutely loved them. Bootcut is an especially popular fit right now, so we’ll see if I can get my hands on a pair. You can go full out and pair with some cowboy boots or slip on some sneakers (like the checkered Vans). Again, sparkles and color are my thing, so bedazzled jeans are right up my alley!

EVERYTHING DENIM

Denim skirts, denim bag, denim, denim and more denim. I’ve specifically been on the hunt for a denim skirt, and I’ve been keeping an eye out for a cute denim bag for spring. I don’t feel like jean skirts ever truly went out of style because they can be worn so effortlessly by everyone, but they are definitely becoming even more popular. Denim is really such a staple whether you sport it in jean form, choose an oversized jacket or opt for an accessory like a jean purse. That being said, I’m going to try to utilize more denim in my outfits outside of just jeans!

Charm bracelet

Charm bracelets, though certainly a chunkier piece of jewelry, can be such a sentimental piece to own. Many people I know would receive a new charm on special occasions, and it would serve as a reminder of the things they liked in that season of life. Now, as an adult, I’m interested in starting a charm bracelet to mark the different milestones in my life. Maybe I could even pass it down to someone I love someday.

Popcorn shirts

I own one, but I’m looking to add more to my closet this spring. I love fun blouses, so I can imagine wearing colorful popcorn tops with a ton of different outfits. I’m definitely the kind of person that loves to add some fun to even my most casual outfits, and popcorn shirts are full of personality. Plus, as always, I love that you can wear them on a nicer night out or just on a day out running errands. one thing I’m trying to remember this year is that I want to buy pieces that I can wear in a range of circumstances, and I feel like these blouses fit the bill!

glitter eyeliner

Not sure if this one even needs any explanation give what I’ve already said about sparkles, but how can we avoid glitter eyeliner this year? It’s way too fun to not try out, and I love that it can stand out even if you’re not interested in doing a full face of makeup. You can choose a more neutral color like white or gold or go all out and make your eyes pop with something outside the box like blue or pink. I cannot wait to try out some glitter eyeliner, so keep an eye out on my stories for my quick and sparkly makeup look!

There are so many good trends out there right now, but you know what I always say. Make sure to invest in pieces and do things that bring YOU joy! Take a stroll down memory lane and see which pieces you want to bring back from your childhood. There are some that I’m not quite ready for again but maybe within the next few years I’ll change my mind. (Like capris… You never see those anymore, but maybe for good reason?) Anyway, that’s all for now. Have fun thinking about those pieces you’re going to try out this year!
