VALENTINE’S DAY IS NOT JUST FOR LOVERS

Valentine’s Day… Treat yourself!

For some, Valentine’s Day can feel like a lot of pressure. If you’re in a relationship, maybe you feel like you need to do something spectacular to celebrate, and if you’re not in a romantic relationship, this day may feel like it’s not meant for you. I’m here to tell you that Valentine’s Day is for everyone who wishes to celebrate! If you want to do something a little outside the box this year, relationship or not, try out some of the things I’ve listed below and treat yourself.

Self-care

Forget the overpriced couple’s massage and bring the spa to you this year. Whether you choose to have an at-home spa day with friends or make this time just for you, I’ve thrown together a few products that can elevate your spa experience in the comfort of your own home.

  • Facial Steamer - This one from Amazon has some great reviews!

  • Facial Roller - A cool roller on your face is certainly relaxing (especially when you use it after the steamer).

  • Cleansing Mask - This Glossier face mask will help your skin feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

  • Bath Bomb - Try out one of these bath bombs from Bathorium to bring that luxurious feel to your own home.

Treat yourself… literally

Order some of your favorite treats, and don’t worry about sharing. If you are not sure where to start, one of my favorite Cuban bakeries in LA offers shipping on some of their most popular bites. I would recommend the Potato Balls, Besito Cookies and the Guava and Cheese Strudel from Porto’s Bakery. They come frozen but ready to bake, so you can make only what you want and take your time enjoying all the delicious goods. For more options, try checking out Gold Belly for delivery on desserts and more from all over. Make your Valentine’s Day full of sweetness!

Flowers

I don’t know about you, but fresh flowers in my home is such a mood booster. Even being married, I still love to pick out and treat myself to this little luxury. If you live near one, hit up Trader Joe’s for some beautiful flower options at a great price. Buy one type or multiple to make your own arrangement at home. For some inspo, check out Bia Blooms on Instagram, an LA based florist who got started making creations with Trader Joe’s flowers too! And if you aren’t in the mood for putting together your own arrangement this time around, try finding a local florist or check out a larger vendor like Urban Stems. They even sell beautiful dried arrangements that will bring some color to your home all year round.

All dressed up…

Put on your favorite dress or find a new one. Rent one on NUULY for the month (I’ve used this service twice by the way and loved it), or thrift one from a local spot. I also picked some of my personal favorite finds to get you started. Once you’re all dressed up, plan a little self-timer photoshoot or invite friends to join in for a photoshoot day. Blast your favorite jams, and take some pics!

Dinner Party For One

Now that you’re all dressed up why not take yourself out to eat or even have your own little Valentine’s Day meal at the house. Open up a bottle of your favorite wine or sparkling cider and have a spread of your fave snacks. In a classic millennial manner, I have an unhealthy obsession with cheese boards, so that would be my choice. The perfect board in my mind would include:

  • Cheddar cheese

  • A fruit cheese like blueberry goat

  • Brie

  • Gouda

  • Dried apricots

  • Fresh sliced apple

  • Honey

  • Marcona almonds or candied walnuts

  • Something chocolate/chocolate covered

  • Sliced baguette

  • Water crackers

  • Salami or prosciutto

Wow. I’m so hungry after writing this… so excuse while I go make a cheese board.

Letter to yourself

Maybe this is a good time to reflect. If you ask me, my relationship with myself is one of the hardest ones for me to cultivate. Remind your future self how well they are doing. Tell them that you are proud of them and what you are proud of at this moment. Valentine’s Day is about love, but if you’re in need of a little self-care and self-love, this holiday is a good excuse to put yourself first and spoil yourself. Take this day to pour into you, and do things that make you feel loved and special! You deserve it.
